What is Desi Next?

Desi Next Cultural Exchange (Desi Next) was established in 2017 to provide a platform to serve the next generation South Asian population in New York. From 1980 to 2013, the Indian immigrant population increased ten-fold, from 206,000 to 2.04 million, roughly doubling every decade. Desi Next seeks to evolve the paradigm of traditional South Asian community organizations to serve the young population of “Desis” in this country and their unique needs and interests.

Our Vision

Our mission at Desi Next has always been to bring attention and support to issues in our community. At our latest event, Run Down Cancer, we aim to educate the community on cancer, support these organizations, and also push forward South Asian representation in cancer treatments. At this event, we will have many professionals running stands with cancer awareness. It is a well-known fact that South Asian communities are drastically underrepresented in cancer clinical trials, and therefore much of the current data and information on cancer may not represent our people. Furthermore, South Asians with leukemia and lymphoma often face difficulty when they need a bone marrow transplant with stem cells of similar DNA. We will offer swabbing at our event to allow connect people with homogeneous DNA. Our last goal is to raise money for charitable organizations that can come closer to finding new treatments and potentially cures. With your help and support, we can build a better, stronger, and more educated community. Join us at Running Down Cancer.
